“Pay attention to yourselves! If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him.” (Luke 17:3, ESV)
When an employee makes a mistake or behaves inappropriately, you have a duty to correct them by explaining exactly what is expected of them. When they show a clear willingness to repent, help them turn that willingness into genuine change and be ready to forgive them. Remember, however, that repeating “I’m sorry” hundreds of times does not amount to genuine repentance. True repentance requires both an apology and a lasting change in behaviour. Insist on genuine repentance. When you discipline employees, observe their behaviour over time to determine whether the problem has been resolved. If they continue to repeat the same offence, correct them again and, if necessary, warn them that continued misconduct will lead to more serious consequences.
By confronting misconduct and helping employees correct their behaviour, you fulfill your responsibility to them and improve your business as a whole.

“A wise son hears his father’s instruction, but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.” (Proverbs 13:1, ESV)
