직장에서 적당한 도구가 없거나 수리가 필요한 도구로 일하는 것보다 더 불만스러운 일은 없다. 직원에게 2등급짜리 도구를 제공하고는 1등급의 결과를 기대할 수는 없다. 오늘날의 시장에서 “도끼를 날카롭게 하는 것”은 나무를 베는 업체에 있어 근본 되는 지혜이고, 잘 운영되는 회사들도 이와 같다.  효과적인 도구, 사무 용품, 공장 기계, 혹은 컴퓨터 소프트웨어든 간에, 효과적인 도구는 직원의 생산성의 기량을 향상시키고 더 효과적으로 일할 수 있도록 해준다. 구입할 수 있는 최고의 시설을 구입하고, 오늘의 손해를 막기 위해 지나치게 아끼지 말라. 좋은 품질의 제품이 더 오래가게 마련이다. 시설 비용을 장기간에 걸친 투자로 바라보라. 만일 직원들에게 성공에 필요한 도구와 용품들로 시설을 치워 준다면, 회사는 성장하게 되고 당신이 투자한 것 이상의 이익을 내게 될 것이다. 

There is nothing more frustrating than not having the right tools at work or working with tools that need repairs. You cannot expect first-class results when you provide your employees with second-class tools. In today's market, "sharpening an ax" is fundamental wisdom for woodcutters, and so are well-run companies. Whether it's effective tools, office supplies, factory machines, or computer software, effective tools can improve your employees' productivity and allow them to work more effectively. Buy the best facilities you can buy, and do not spare too much to prevent today's losses. Good quality products are bound to last longer. Look at the cost of the facilities as an investment over a long period of time. If you clean up the facilities with the tools and supplies needed to succeed, the company will grow and make more profit than you have invested in.
