어떤 프로젝트를 계획할 때 반드시 기억해야 할 사실이 있다. 성공했을 때 얻는 보상보다 실패했을 때 치러야 하는 비용이 더 클 수 있다는 점이다. 안타깝게도 사람들은 우리의 성공보다 실수를 더 오래 기억하는 경우가 많다.

그러나 위험 부담과 실패에 대한 두려움 때문에 아무것도 시도하지 않는 것은 올바른 선택이 아니다. 중요한 것은 위험과 보상을 신중하게 비교하고, 감당할 수 있는 범위 안에서 결단하는 것이다.

프로젝트가 예상대로 진행되지 않는다면 먼저 상황을 분석하라. 무엇이 부족한지, 무엇이 성공을 가로막고 있는지 파악한 후 보완책을 마련해야 한다. 문제를 발견했다면 해결책을 실행하며 계속 전진하라.

반대로 충분히 검토한 결과 더 이상 현실적인 대안이 없고 성공 가능성이 매우 낮다면, 그때는 과감히 손실을 줄이는 결정을 내려야 한다. 지혜로운 리더는 언제 밀고 나가야 하는지뿐 아니라 언제 멈춰야 하는지도 안다.

균형 잡힌 판단과 분별력을 갖춘다면, 실패로 기억될 일을 줄이고 더 큰 성공을 향해 나아갈 수 있을 것이다.

However, fear of risk should never paralyze us. Instead, wise leaders carefully weigh both risks and rewards before taking action. Courage is not the absence of risk; it is the ability to move forward with informed judgment.

On the other hand, if all reasonable alternatives have been exhausted and the likelihood of success is minimal, it may be time to cut losses and redirect resources elsewhere. Effective leaders know not only when to persevere, but also when to stop.

Balanced judgment, thoughtful analysis, and timely decisions can help prevent costly mistakes and position both leaders and organizations for long-term success.
