여행사 직원과 은행원의 공통점

WHAT TRAVEL AGENTS AND BANKERS HAVE IN COMMON

우리는 모두 살면서 사적인 일로, 또는 업무적인 일로 은행원들과 마주한다. 또한 우리 중 많은 이들이 사업적인 이유이든 개인적인 이유이든 여행사 직원과 접촉한다. 그런데 어떤 면에서 은행원과 여행사 직원이 공통점이 있다는 생각을 해본 적이 있는가? 그것에 대해 한번 생각해 보자. 그들을 만나서 일을 처리하다 보면 공통으로 아래와 같은 질문을 받는다.

1. 지금 있는 곳은 어딘가요?

2. 어디로 가기를 원하나요?

3. 어떻게 거기에 도착하기 원하나요?

We all, in one way or another, have dealt with bankers. Probably on both personal and professional levels. Many of us also have had dealings with travel agents on occasion, whether for business or personal purposes. Have you ever considered that in one sense they are pretty much the same? Think about it. When you begin working with them, they ask essentially the same three questions:

1. Where are you?

2. Where do you want to go?

3. How are you going to get there? 

 

재정과 여행은 중요하다. 이 두 가지 영역에서 전문 지식이 부족한 사람들은 내가 무엇을 원하는지 잘 알고 있는 전문가를 찾아가기가 좋을 것이다. 그리고 위의 세 가지 질문은 그것을 매우 잘 보여준다. 우리가 재정적으로 어떤 상황에 있는지, 그리고 우리의 재정적인 목표는 어디인지, 그리고 그 목표에 어떻게 도달하려고 하는지를 생각하면서, 현재의 재정 상태나 앞으로의 재정적 목표에 관심을 갖는 것은 중요하다.

Finances and travel are important. For people lacking expertise in those areas, it is helpful to turn to professionals with understanding about what we hope to accomplish. The questions above are very revealing. Whether we are concerned about our finances or how to reach a desired destination, knowing where we are, where we want to go, and how we intend to get there are important considerations.

 

직장에서 목표를 설정하는 것도 마찬가지이다. 기업과 기관들도 전부 같은 질문을 한다. 우리는 현재 어디에 와 있는가? 우리는 앞으로(다음 연도에, 다음 분기에 등) 어디로 나아가기를 원하는가? 우리의 전략은 무엇인가? 우리는 어떻게 목표에 도달할 것인가?

The same is true for setting goals in the workplace. Companies and organizations all take time to ask the same questions: Where are we now? Where do we want to go in the future (over the next year, the next three months, or whatever)? And what is our strategy – how are we going to get from here to there?

 

그런데 당신은 영적인 상태에 대해서도 이와 비슷한 질문을 해본 적이 있는가? 많은 사람이 전혀 그렇게 하지 않고 있다. 그러나 젊건 노인이건 우리는 모두 언젠가는 죽는다. 그것은 사실이다. 인생은 100% 그 종착역이 있기에 우리는 가끔 다음과 같은 질문을 하지 않을 수 없다. “다음은 뭐지? 이 땅에서 내 인생에 끝이 오면 그다음에는 어떻게 되는 거지?”

However, have you ever asked similar questions regarding your spiritual condition? Many people never do. But it is a fact: No matter how young or old we are, one day we all will die. Life is 100% terminal. Which leads to questions like, “What’s next? What will happen when my life on earth comes to an end?”  

 

물론 병적으로 집착을 할 필요는 없지만, 나의 의도는 이게 현실이라는 것이다. 우리가 은행원이나 여행사 직원 또는 그 외에 여러 분야의 상담사들을 마주할 때처럼 우리의 영원한 목적지에 대해서도 그러한 질문들을 해보는 것이 당연한 것이 아니겠는가? 그렇게 하지 못하는 것은 지극히 근시안적인 일이다.

My intent is not to seem morbid, but realistic. Just as we would consult with a banker, travel agent, or another type of consultant with the questions above, it makes sense to ask similar ones about our eternal destiny. To fail to do so is extremely short-sighted.

 

아래의 세 가지 질문에 대한 당신의 답은 무엇인가? 영적인 질문들이라서 약간 다르게 표현했다.

1. 나는 어디에서 왔는가?

2. 나는 왜 여기에 있는가?

3. 나에게 궁극적으로 어떤 일이 일어날 것인가? 다르게 말하자면, 사람이 죽고 나면 어떻게 되는가?

What are your answers to these three, worded slightly differently, spiritual questions? 

1. Where did I come from? 

2. Why am I here? 

3. What ultimately happens to me? In other words, what do you think happens when you die?

 

몇 년 전에 나는 마침내 위의 질문들에 대한 답을 얻으려고 했고, 성경이라는 컨설턴트를 찾았다. 그리고 아래와 같은 답을 몇 가지 찾았다.

나는 어디에서 왔는가? “주께서 내 내장을 지으시며 나의 모태에서 나를 만드셨나이다

내가 주께 감사하옴은 나를 지으심이 심히 기묘하심이라 주께서 하시는 일이 기이함을 내 영혼이 잘 아나이다” (시편 139:13-14)

나는 왜 여기에 있는가? “우리는 그가 만드신 바라 그리스도 예수 안에서 선한 일을 위하여 지으심을 받은 자니 이 일은하나님이 전에 예비하사 우리로 그 가운데서 행하게 하려 하심이니라” (에베소서 2:10)

사람이 죽고 나면 어떻게 되는가? “한번 죽는 것은 사람에게 정해진 것이요 그 후에는 심판이 있으리니” (히브리서 9:27)

“모든 사람이 죄를 범하였으매 하나님의 영광에 이르지 못하더니” (로마서 3:23)

“우리가 아직 죄인 되었을 때에 그리스도께서 우리를 위하여 죽으심으로 하나님께서 우리에 대한 자기의 사랑을 확증하셨느니라” (로마서 5:8)

“죄의 삯은 사망이요 하나님의 은사는 그리스도 예수 우리 주 안에 있는 영생이니라” (로마서 6:23). 우리는 오직 그리스도를 통해서 용서, 구원, 영생을 받을 수 있다.

Years ago, when I finally was willing to honestly and openly seek answers to those questions, I also turned to a consultant: the Word of God – the Bible. Here are a few of the things I discovered:

Where did I come from? “For You [God] created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb…I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:13-14).

Why am I here? “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10).

What happens when you die? “And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment” (Hebrews 9:27). “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23). We can receive forgiveness, redemption and eternal life – but only through Christ.

 

성경이 가르쳐주는 교훈은 그 깊이와 높이를 측량할 수가 없다. 그래도 위에서 내가 제시한 성경 구절들은 당신의 영적인 미래에 대해 알아볼 수 있는 좋은 출발점이 될 것이다. 영생에 대해 생각해 보는 것은 빠르면 빠를수록 좋다.

The depth and scope of what the Bible teaches is beyond measure, but regarding your spiritual future, the passages cited above are a good place to start. It is never too soon to consider eternity.

1. 이 월요만나의 전반부에 소개되었던 세 가지 질문을 해본 적이 있나요? ‘지금 당신이 있는 곳은 어딘가요? 당신은 어디로 가기를 원하나요?, 어떻게 거기에 도착하기 원하나요? 만약 이런 질문들을 해본 적이 있다면 그 질문들이 어떤 점에서 도움이 되었나요?

Can you relate to the three questions introduced at the beginning of this Monday Manna – Where are you? Where do you want to go? How are you going to get there? If you have used them in the past, in what ways have they proved helpful?

 

  

2. 어떻게 이러한 질문들이 단기 목표나 장기 목표와 같은 것들을 설정하는데 특히 도움이 되나요?

How are these questions especially useful in terms of setting goals, whether for the short-term or the long-term?

  

 

 

3. 왜 사람들은 재정 계획, 여행 계획, 목표 설정을 할 때 이러한 질문들을 기꺼이 하면서, 영원한 목적지에 대해서는 이런 질문들을 하기를 꺼리는지 그 이유가 뭐라고 생각하나요? 당신은 어떤가요? 당신은 현재의 삶뿐만 아니라 이 땅에서 마지막을 맞이할 때 당신의 영적인 상태와 관련해서 이러한 질문들을 해본 적이 있나요? 이런 질문들을 할 때 기분이 어떤가요?

Why do you think people willingly ask these questions in relation to financial planning, traveling, or goal-setting, but are reluctant to ask similar questions about their eternal destiny? How about you – have you ever considered these questions concerning your spiritual condition, not only for now but for the time when your life on earth comes to an end? How does they make you feel?

  

 

 

4. “나는 왜 이곳에 있는가?” “나의 존재 목적은 무엇인가?” 이런 질문들에 대해 당신은 뭐라고 답할 건가요? 에베소서 2:10 말씀이 당신에게 답을 제시해 주나요? 아니면 더 혼란스럽기만 한가요? 답해보세요.

What would you say your response to the questions, “Why am I here? What is my purpose?” Does the declaration from Ephesians 2:10 help you with the answer, or does it make you feel more confused? Explain your answer.

             If you have found the answers to these questions and are confident about not only about this life but the life yet to come, think about and pray for someone God might lead your way who has yet to seriously consider these questions. Perhaps you could help in directing that person to the answers he or she needs.
